The War on Drugs, "Lost In The Dream"
Best Track: “Under The Pressure”
Why it makes the list: Lead singer Adam Granduciel conjures up singer/songwriters of the past, like Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, and Bruce Springsteen in that the emphasis is on crafting songs that tell a story and yet instead of straight-ahead rock, the band draws on an aesthetic that embraces everything from new wave to synth pop and draws lyrically from Granduciel’s feelings of isolation after coming off the road. To be sure, they could learn to love brevity: too many of the songs exceed the five-minute mark, but at least they’re never boring.
