London 2012 Olympics: Opening Ceremony

Michael Johnson with the Olympic flame.

The Opening Ceremony is designed to showcase the best of the Host Nation. The name of the Olympic Opening Ceremony show will be ‘Isles of Wonder,' and will begin with the sound of the largest harmonically tuned bell in Europe. Then the Stadium will be transformed into the British countryside for the opening scene and will include real farmyard animals.

The Opening Ceremony will also showcase the athletes and participating nations during the Parade of Athletes. Once the Games are officially open, the Olympic Flag will be brought into the stadium while the Olympic Anthem is played.  The Finale is of course the entrance of the Olympic Flame and the final torchbearer lighting the Cauldron, which will burn for the length of the Games.
