All Tomorrow's Parties began life as the Bowlie Weekender, curated by Belle and Sebastian at the Camber Sands holiday camp on the south coast of England. In all ATP's iterations since, that sense of an indie village ruled benignly by a one-off, celbrity mayor has continued.
This year's mayor is Jim Jarmusch, the visionary film maker behind the likes of "Down By Law" and "Coffee and Cigarettes". Friday night's line up is mostly bands recreating their finest album on stage, which may sound a bit dull, but when you consider that two of those albums, the Stooges Raw Power and Mudhoney's Superfuzz Bigmuff, are scuzz rock masterpieces, you may have to think again. Only time will tell how well Iggy and Co. manage to reproduce the six string wah-wah raunch of recently deceased guitarist and founding Stooge, Ron Asheton.
