2/20 Thoughts: While the nominations in this category were a total crapshoot, the winner has been plainly evident for some time: Meryl Streep may well lose the Best Actress race, but this category offers voters another way of expressing their admiration for her transformation into Margaret Thatcher. BAFTA voters preferred the verisimilitude of "The Iron Lady" to the fantasy of "Harry Potter" here (despite handing the latter Visual Effects); I expect the Oscar voters will too. --Guy Lodge
