"LIfe of Pi" should bring Claudio Miranda his first Academy Award, but is there another DP who might end a long losing streak in this category? Shockingly, acclaimed cinematographer Roger Deakins has been nominated nine previous times without a win. Deakins won this year's equivalent guild honor from the American Society of Cinematographers earlier this month. On the other hand, the Academy has awarded "Pi" 11 nominations and Miranda also won the equivalent honor from BAFTA.
