‘Argo’ shimmers in Oscar victory

Oscars is one event that makes head turn and every soul in the States will wait to learn if their favorite movie, director, actor or singer has got a chance to taste the victory. As any person, I too was watching it with my dish TV packages, anticipating some surprising things to happen, as is always. It is a night of surprise to everyone including the nominees.
This year’s Best Picture award was stolen by ‘Argo,’ which comfortably pushed one of the frontrunners ‘Lincoln’ far behind. ‘Argo’s’ director Ben Affleck failed to get nominated in the best director category, but his movie came out in flying colors. This is the first time in history since the movie ‘Driving Miss Daisy’ won the top prize in 1990 without its director being nominated.
Seems like Ben Affleck’s struggle to rebuild his reputation after he was ridiculed about the romance he shared with Jennifer Lopez way back in 2002-04, has paid for via ‘Argo.’
The movie also grabbed the award for best adapted screenplay and film editing. While accepting the award Ben stated, ‘So many wonderful people extended their help to me when they had nothing to benefit from it ... you can't hold grudges. It's hard, but you can't hold grudges. It doesn't matter how you get knocked down in life, because it happens. All that matters is that you get up.’
Forty year old Ben who is also the producer of the movie ‘Argo’ gave an emotional speech that touched many. The comedy tale of the movie that revolves around six diplomats from Tehran who are rescued by the CIA mission has an interesting cut to it. The whole story happens just after the Islamic Revolution.
‘Argo’ also received a special honor as Michelle Obama made an unexpected appearance from the respectable White House and opened the winning envelope. This is one of the highly kept secrets so far in the history of Oscars.
One choice that made everyone upset was the best director award won by Ang Lee, the director of the movie, ‘Life of Pi’ a shipwreck tale.
