FX sets summer premiere dates for 'Louie,' 'Wilfred' and 'Rescue Me'
Louis C.K. to team up with talking dog in June, final 'Rescue Me' season in July
Elijah Wood and Jason Gann in "Wilfred."
While FX's two most recent series, "Terriers" and "Lights Out," didn't succeed, overall the channel has had a healthy last few years, including last summer's launch of Louis C.K.'s brilliant low-budget comedy "Louie." Today, FX announced the return date for "Louie," which will be paired with the very promising - and very strange - new comedy "Wilfred," along with the premiere date for the final season of "Rescue Me."
"Wilfred" and "Louie" season two will premiere on Thursday, June 23, at 10 and 10:30 p.m., respectively. The last season of "Rescue Me," meanwhile, will be Tuesday, July 12 at 10 p.m.
"Wilfred" is based on an Australian comedy of the same name, and features that show's star and creator Jason Gann as, well... Wilfred, a dog whom next-door neighbor Elijah Wood for some reason sees as a troublemaking but bold human in a dog suit. This promotional clip gives you some sense of what it's like. I watched the pilot back at January press tour, and it's both funny and mesmerizingly weird. I look forward to seeing more, and to discussing it with you, and I sure as hell can't wait to see more "Louie."
(
"Rescue Me," on the other hand? Maybe I'll tune in for the finale, but I've been burned - pardon the pun - one too many times by that show to make the week-to-week investment, even for a final season.)

April 20, 2011 at 3:09PM EST Reply to CommentOh no, the Rescue Me acolytes are sure to take you to task now
lztouchthedream I'm no Rescue Me acolyte, the last season was downright horrible, but I'll still watch the last season. Admittedly, a small part of me is hoping that they turn it around for this last season, but mostly I'm just waiting for it to end. Though, i'm sure being paid to watch and review a ton of other shows (most of which I actually enjoyed) would change that attitude quickly.

April 20, 2011 at 3:26PM EST Reply to CommentWilfred looks like an awful, awful show to me. Almost like a parody of a bad 'serious' fx series. You haven't steered me wrong so far, so I'll watch the pilot on your advice whenever it airs, though.
Mark I couldn't believe how excellent Wilfred was when I saw the original Australian series on the IFC. It has won numerous awards and acclaim. Keep an open mind and watch...this show will do for FX what the Soprano's did for HBO. There will be syndication and it will be a huge success.

April 20, 2011 at 3:35PM EST Reply to CommentI had the final 6 episodes of the last season of Rescue Me sitting on my DVR, but I was really not looking forward to watching them. They keep doing the same stupid crap every season and the first half of the season was more of the same.
I then came up with a way to get through those final 6 episodes. I watched them on fast forward ... about a minute or so per episode. I think I was able to still follow the complex plot. Fire where someone almost gets hurt, everyone back at the fire station hanging out, Tommy sleeping around, Tommy drinking, Tommy not drinking, Tommy fighting with his family, Damien gets hurt. Scene.
Alan, please let me know if you're interested in my weekly recaps of the show when it's back on. I would limit them to 140 characters or less. Maybe I will just tweet them to you ... don't want you to miss out.

April 20, 2011 at 4:08PM EST Reply to Comment"Wilfred" seems like a similar premise to "Sylvia," a play about a man who talks to his dog. Sylvia is played by a woman, and the man's wife becomes jealous of the attention he pays to the dog.

April 20, 2011 at 4:23PM EST Reply to CommentCan't wait for more "Louie", but I have to wonder if C.K. has it in him to match what he did last year. That was some seriously weird, disturbing and effed up stuff.
I actually think it will be even more weird, disturbing, and effed up than last year.

April 20, 2011 at 5:08PM ESTBen He's a genius comic who's found the right format for his very funny and deeply unsettling brand of humor, and he has 100% control over the show. I don't expect Season 2 to deteriorate or pull its punches relative to Season 1 at all.

April 20, 2011 at 5:44PM EST Reply to CommentHave to admit I'm mildly disappointed you won't be giving the Final Season the Alan treatment. But completely understand, I'm suffering through it to the end. I keep waiting for it to rebound but I'm also fully aware it won't.
Anyway only disappointed because a Rescue Me search brought me to the old blog and for that I'm gonna miss your reviews.
You're still the best though obv.
Col Bat Guano I can't blame Alan for dropping it, but after coming this far I am going to have to drag myself through the final season of Rescue Me. I'm not expecting a lot.

April 20, 2011 at 7:13PM EST Reply to CommentSo, the next announcement from FX is that they made a huge mistake canceling "Terriers", and that they have renewed the show for another season to begin in 2012.
Right? Isn't that what FX is going to do?
Right?

April 21, 2011 at 8:54AM EST Reply to CommentLooking forward to seeing the great return of Louie. I hope he's had weird experiences to write into his show in the offseason.
And Wilfred looks pretty hilarious and I don't know why. Good to see Elijah Wood working agagin.

May 12, 2011 at 9:29AM EST Reply to CommentFX has been doing some great things with their comedies. I mean look at It’s Always Sunny… and Archer. And the premise of Wilfred looks absolutely hilarious and it doesn’t hurt that they have Elijah Wood in one of the lead roles. I won’t be paying an arm and a leg to watch this either! A little while back I finally got free of Comcast and now I’m paying less while getting more. I can’t believe I never considered satellite TV before now, it just never dawned on my that I had other options until I went to work for DISH Network. Now I’m so happy with it I’ve been telling everyone I know.
