Listen: Firewall & Iceberg Podcast No. 91

Dan and Alan talk 'Wilfred,' 'Louie,' 'Entourage' and more

The

Happy Wednesday, Boys & Girls. After taking last week off, it's time for the [triumphant?] return of The Firewall & Iceberg Podcast.

Starting next week, all heck breaks loose. We'll have new series premieres, old series returns, Emmys and all sorts of wackiness. It's a safe bet that we'll have a couple multi-podcast weeks ahead.

For this week, with things a bit slower, we chatted about "Wilfred" and "Louie," which end their seasons on Thursday. We also answered a lot of Listener Mail, allowing us to touch on the final season of "Entourage" and a bunch of other stuff. And then we had two weeks of "Breaking Bad" to get to.

[Oh and apologies for the one really awful edit. My bad.]

The breakdown:
"Wilfred" and "Louie" -- 2:30 - 22:45
Listener Mail: "Entourage" -- 23:00 - 33:15
Listener Mail: First Series canceled -- 32:20 - 37:50
Listener Mail: Premise Pilots -- 38:00 - 45:30
Listener Mail: More on Pilots -- 45:35 - 50:05
Listener Mail: Talking TV at Parties -- 50:15 - 53:40
"Breaking Bad" -- 53:45 - 01:13:45

As always, you can subscribe to The Firewall & Iceberg Podcast over at the iTunes Store, where you can also rate us and comment on us. [Or you can always follow our RSS Feed.]

Speaking of premise pilots, Kings had a good premise pilot. *obligatory Kings reference*

Looking forward to hearing you guys dig into the new season.

    • Will - And a *necessary* premise pilot, since it crafted an entire alternate history/geography/society.

      Ah, "Kings"...

I don't think it makes sense to say that we're clearly supposed to be rooting for Gus during the interrogation. The beauty of Breaking Bad is that there are no obvious good guys. I watch that scene and feel like we're supposed to root for Hank, though I don't think Vince Gilligan wants anything to be so black and white. Who you cheer for on this show has a lot to do with whoever has done the least heinous thing recently.

Thanks for informing me about the Babylon Fields pilot. Did a quick search and it is indeed still up on Google Video. I like Ray Stevenson so maybe I will check it out for fun.

Why would Gus be delivering meth to Mexico? There is no way the cartel would let any shipment through, especially in a Pollos Hermanos truck. They had to be in the U.S.

It's funny, and indicative of how varied Louie is, that Dan's favorite episode, "Country Drive," was probably my least favorite (although I didn't like the first ep either, possibly called "Pregnant"). I just thought the aunt being a horrible person and/or dead (or both) was the most obvious thing to do, and not very interesting, though I loved the interview with the actress after the show.

For what it's worth, I THINK my favorite ep was "Come On, God," though overall I think this season has been streets ahead of season one. (Also loved "Moving" and "Joan")
