'New Moon' soundtrack claws its way to No. 1
Will Michael Jackson make its stay short lived?
After being kept out of the No. 1 spot last week because of crooner Michael Buble and a shorter-than-normal release week, look for the soundtrack to “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” to bite its way to No. 1 on the album chart this Tuesday. In its first full week of sales, it should move as many as 150,000 copies, a number we imagine will soar even higher once the movie opens in theaters next month.
Until then, however, “New Moon’s” trip to the top will be short lived, as there’s no doubt that “This is It,” the two-CD soundtrack companion to the Michael Jackson concert film, will claim the top spot next week in the Billboard 200. The set comes out Oct. 27, one day before the film opens in theaters.
Returning to this week’s chart, country singer Tim McGraw will likely come in No. 2 on the CD chart, as his “Southern Voice” sells around 110,000 units, predicts hitsdailydouble.com.
The rest of the top 10 remains fairly static as Buble drops to 3, Jay-Z hangs in around No. 4 and Miley Cyrus, the Black Eyed Peas and Taylor Swift just keep chugging along with enough sales to hang in the top 10. Owl City, propelled by the sweet (or irritating) little song, “Fireflies,” moves into the Top 10 for the first time. The only other debut besides McGraw is likely to be from Joss Stone, who will sell around 25,000 copies, which, is enough to end up around No. 9.
