The concert industry has always been a volume business. As the industry jargon goes, "it's all about putting butts in seats."
Therefore, acts and concert promoters are doing everything they can to keep patrons coming back to their local amphitheater, club or stadium this summer. Artists on all levels are offering bargains to entice fans sitting on the fence to move into a seat.
As I wrote in this piece for the Washington Post, No Doubt fans who purchase a ticket in the two top price tiers can download the band's entire catalog for free. Lucinda Williams is giving folks who come to her concerts $7 off t-shirts. The All American Rejects are keeping prices at the same rate as they always have, despite their recent chart success.
I'll be discussing the bargains to be had on Thursday on WYNC's Soundstage program at 2 p.m. Eastern time.
Now, if only we could do something about those service fees....
