Sting bundles up for album of 'Winter' songs
'If On a Winter Night' comes out in Autumn. Go figure....
Sting arrives for the premiere of "Moon" during the Tribeca Film Festival at the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center Thursday, April 30, 2009 in New York.
In 2006, Sting released "Songs from the Labyrinth," a collection of 17th century music performed on the lute. Now, he's going back in time again for "If On a Winter's Night..." Out Oct. 27, the collection examines songs about winter over the centuries, starting with the traditional music of the British Isles. Among the compositions are "The Snow It Melts the Soonest, a traditional ballad from Sting's hometown of Newcastle, England; 14th century carol "Gabriel's Message," and Henry Purcell's "Now Winter Comes Slowly."
Of course, Sting has included his own winter entry, "The Hounds of Winter" from "Mercury Falling" on the set, as well as a previously unreleased track, "Lullaby for an Anxious Child."
Similar to "Labyrinth," "Winter's Night" will come out on Decca, Universal Music Group's classical division.
Sting, we know you're probably still counting the money from the Police reunion tour, but would it kill you to do a new pop album? For those who are counting, the last one was 2003's "Sacred Love."
