Rothbury Festival brings fireworks for Fourth with Dylan and Nas
Headliners include The Dead, Floggin Molly and G Love
It is now possible to leave your house at the beginning of summer and just festival hop for the next few months. Add Rothbury Festival to the mix. In a very jam-centric bill, the festival's headliners include The Dead, Bob Dylan, String Cheese Incident, Willie Nelson, Gov't Mule and Guster.
Also on the 70-act , bill are Damian Marley & Nas, G. Love & Special Sauce, Broken Social Scene, Les Claypool, Ani DiFranco, Matisyahu, the Hold Steady and Flogging Molly.
Rothbury takes place July 2-5 at the Double JJ Ranch outside of Muskegon, Mich. According to a story in the Detroit Free Press, tickets for the four-day event will be $229.50 for presale. Then Friday, they rise to $249.50. As is the buzzword for this year's festivals, tickets can be purchased via layaway-it's not just for winter coats and dryers any more...
I am really curious as to how this many of these festivals will still be standing after this year. As the Detroit Free Press reports, after last year's Rothbury Festival, unrelated financial problems led to the resort declaring bankruptcy. However, this year's promoters, AEG Live and Madison House Presents, were able to reach a deal with the resort's bankruptcy trustee to allow this year's festival to go forward.
There seems to be a glut of festivals this year. So far, only one-Florida's Langerado Festival-has cancelled. . Of course, many of them are just going on sale now, so we may sadly see more fall by the wayside.
