R.E.M. to be honored at Carnegie Hall
How do you get to New York's Carnegie Hall? Instead of the time honored answer of "Practice, practice, practice," it seems a love for R.E.M. may pave the path. Patti Smith, Ingrid Michaelson, Kimya Dawson and Darius Rucker are among the artists who will pay tribute to R.E.M. on March 11 at "The Music of R.E.M. at Carnegie Hall."
Net proceeds from the evening will benefit musical education programs, the American Symphony Orchestra, Church Street School for Music & Art and Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation. Producer Michael Dorf has presented similar evenings honoring artists like Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Elton John/Bernie Taupin and Bruce Springsteen. Other performers include Glen Hansard (from the Frames and the movie "Once"), Throwing Muses with Kristen Hersh, The Old ‘97s' Rhett Miller, Bob Mould and Rachael Yamagata. More names are expected to be added.
VIP tickets, which include an artists reception, are $275. Tickets for regular folks are $38 to $125. No word on if R.E.M. will show up, but Springsteen did when he was honored a few years ago.
