Music Top 10 of 2010: The Top 10 Singles include Eminem, Miranda Lambert and Bruno Mars
It was a great year for pop music. For years, Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart was predominantly urban leaning. This year saw its share of great urban pop hits, but for the first time in a long time, there was more room for straight ahead pop, whether it was Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” or Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” or hot newcomer Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok.”
Pop radio broadened its borders to welcome country artists like Taylor Swift and Lady Antebellum, while still finding ample room for mainstays like Usher and Eminem, who rebounded in a big way after a slight slip in 2009.
For my top 10 singles, I picked my favorite songs that were also radio hits from the worlds of pop, R&B and country (with the exception of one song). I could easily have come up with a different top 10 for each format, but limited it to one master list. I imagine it’s the only time Eminem and Dierks Bentley have found themselves on the same list.
I’ll publish a list of my top 10 albums later on in the week, but also look to Hitfix for Katie Hasty’s video montage of her top 10 albums coming soon.
