Guitarist Joe Satriani's copyright infringement against Coldplay has been dismissed, but it's unclear whether the British band was required to compensate Satriani.

Last December, Satriani filed suit against Coldplay and its label, alleging that the band's Grammy-winning song "Viva La Vida" lifted portions of Satriani's "If I Could Fly."

Satriani's representative confirmed to Billboard that the suit had been dismissed and legal sources hinted to Billboard that a financial settlement may have been reached, but would not comment further. The settlement does not include Coldplay admitting to any wrongdoing.

From the start, Coldplay has denied any infringement, saying in a statement, "If there are any similarities between our two pieces of music, they are entirely coincidental, and just as surprising to us as to him."
