Avett Brothers set release date for debut
Will Rick Rubin help or hurt North Carolina-based rock band?
The Avett Brothers
The Avett Brothers' long awaited major label debut on American Recordings/Columbia will come out Sept. 29.
"I and Love and You" pairs the North Carolina-based band with American founder/Grammy-winning producer Rick Rubin. In additional to traditional record retailers (whatever that means anymore), the CD will be available through Starbucks.
The Avett Bros. are one of the leading lights in the poorly-named folk-punk movement that combines often-traditional instrumentation with a rock spirit. The Avett Bros. have been building a following for years-and have risen to where they can sell out theaters in the Southeast. It's been a build that has taken a few years and has proceeded at a nice, steady pace. We'll see if signing with a major takes the band to the proverbial next level or makes them yearn for the years of touring in a van.
You can already hear "I and Love and You's" title track here. Starting Sept. 22, you can hear the whole album streaming on NRP Music at www.npr.org/firstlisten. In the meantime, the Avett Bros., who seem constitutionally incapable of coming off the road, will continue touring. See their tour dates here.
