I remember when David Gordon Green's remake of "Suspiria" was in development and the rumor broke that he was casting Natalie Portman as his lead.  It was a nice fit, and I was intrigued at the idea and the combination of sensibilities.  Obviously it didn't happen, but it looks like David Gordon Green really likes Portman, because I just finished chatting with Danny McBride about "Land Of The Lost," and at the end of the conversation, I brought up his next film, "Your Highness" and asked him if there was any news he had that hadn't broken yet.

"'Your Highness' is looking good, and Natalie Portman just signed on this week, so we're adding her to the cast.  It's me, Franco, and her now, and we'll have two more major pieces of the cast in place next week."

We talked a bit about how Green's casting the film, and it sounds like Green wants to use "serious" actors to fill out the world, with Danny being the one overtly comic character in the film.

I know that Brad Silberling and Guillermo Del Toro have been working with Green to show him how they approach shooting special effects, and it sounds like he's got some really ambitious ideas for bringing this comic fantasy to life.  If you're not already eagerly anticipating "Your Highness," it's the story of a pot-smoking prince who is tasked with protecting his kingdom from mythical beasts, but who would really rather just hang out doing bong hits.  Green and McBride have referenced films like "Krull" and "Clash of the Titans" and "Yor - Hunter Of the Future" as touchstones for this one, and it sounds to me like those Belfast sets are going to be one of the coolest places on Earth this summer.

Hopefully we'll have more casting news on this one for you in the next week or two, but for now, you can add Portman's name officially, and ratchet up my anticipation even more for this one.
