So, what did you see over the weekend? "21 Jump Street," possibly -- though to judge from recent chatter on Twitter and elsewhere, no new release got people more excited over the past two days than the 150-second trailer for Ridley Scott's "Prometheus," the possible "Alien" prequel with a dream cast headed up by Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender. Multiplex junkies and critics alike have been drooling over the possibilities since the first teasers debuted months ago; each new scrap that gets released seems only to heighten expectations.

Some readers asked why we haven't chimed in with our own take on the latest trailer -- it's certainly not because we aren't psyched for the film, which ranked at #3 in our Most Anticipated of 2012 list. Kris, of course, is on pre-wedding hiatus, though I'm sure he'd have thoughts on it otherwise. I, meanwhile, have no thoughts whatsoever on this or any other "Prometheus" trailer -- not least because I have painstakingly avoided seeing the lot. My no-trailers diet is still in effect for the most part, and I'm far too intrigued by this on-paper proposition to spoil my appetite now.

So, as much as it pains me... I got nothin'. But over at neighboring blog Motion Captured, Drew McWeeny muses on the new trailer, in addition to other marketing bits and bobs. and concludes that, while the publicity has been coy on the matter, there's no doubting the film's prequel status. I've seen other blogs, meanwhile, pondering the differences between the US and UK trailers -- people are truly scutinizing everything they can lay their hands on with this one.

Anyway, some of asked for a space to unload your thoughts on the matter, and here it is. I've included both trailers below -- geek out to your heart's content. I'll be the one in the corner covering my ears and humming loudly.

    Matthew Starr

More brilliant work from Arthur Max. Another guy way overdue for an Oscar by the way.

Guy Lodge A great designer, no doubt. Not sure what I'd have given him an Oscar for, though.

JJ1 He's my win for Gladiator. I don't nom him anywhere else. But I do admire his work in Kingdom of Heaven, American Gangster, and Robin Hood.

Matthew Starr I have not seen Restoration but I can't imagine any film had better design that Seven that year. He should have won for Gladiator as well.

Guy Lodge Restoration, largely unendurable otherwise, is pretty splendid on the design front. Though Richard III should have won that year, for my money.

JJ1 "largely unendurable otherwise". Tell me about it.

But yes, the design and costumes are incredible. Richard III makes my top 5 there, but not quite my win.

Wheter As his first real credit didn't come until he was well into his 30s, what did he do before this? Or does imdb not list all his credits as an associate art director?

For me, his work on Se7en and Panic Room were sleek and memorable. Kingdom of Heaven/Gladiator were fine, but great design is to be expected on large-scale period dramas. It's harder to do contemporary and minimalist work.

DylanS For 1995, I'd say Marc Caro's design work on "The City of Lost Children" takes the cake, but "Se7en" would be a close second. (Wow, what a stellar year for design)

    The trailer looks great.

And for me, it's the first trailer I've seen in recent memory where I thought "Wow, that looks like it'll actually be a very good movie".

I watched the trailer yesterday several times. This isn't really in my wheelhouse, but I have to admit, I was blown away. I eventually tired of the Alien movies, so I was hoping this was entirely different. But whatever this is, it looks dynamite. Sign me up.

My thoughts are this: Stop overhyping trailers, internet.

Very excited to see the film.

DylanS I sympathize with you here Kris, and I'm starting to think Guy has the right idea with skipping them all together, but I don't think we can expect a change in attitude anytime soon. :(

I truly admire Guy's ability to completely shut out trailers and clips and the like. That would take an incredible amount of willpower for me. I'd have better luck giving up chocolate.

d Not hard to do. I actually prefer to watch trailers after the movies. A few stand outs are Sideways, Where the Wild Things Are, Casino Royale, Young Adult and Jerry Seinfeld's documentary, Comedian
