Watch: Jonah Hill correctly predicts a 'Lakers' win and talks 'Cyrus'
The LA native hasn't given up on his hometown team
This is a big weekend for limited releases. Two of the best films at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, "Cyrus" and "I Am Love," are making their debut.
"Cyrus," is an outrageous, but moving comedy from the talented Duplass brothers which finds Hill playing a young adult who just can't leave home. and has a very close relationship with his mother (Marisa Tomei) In fact, his relationship with his mother may be a tad, "too" close. At least, that's the opinion of John C. Reilly's character who has fallen for Cyrus' dear old, but sexy mom. It's certainly the darkest and most difficult role the "Superbad" star had taken to date and is nothing like his turn as a wannabe music exec in the hit comedy "Get Him to the Greek"
Sitting down to talk to Hill, I was somewhat surprised he remembered playing basketball with me last year in a local neighborhood park (the court is somewhat notorious for having celebrities stop by because it's hidden from the street and therefore, paparazzi). It's a perfect example of just how down to earth Hill has remained as his notoriety has grown. Sadly, I've interviewed numerous stars numerous times only to have them act as though they have never met me before (the best is when their publicists roll their eyes). And yes, no joke, he's a better player than you might suspect (or perhaps we didn't take him seriously enough that day? Hmmm...). In any event, after walking down memory lane, our conversation couldn't help but return to the events of the previous night where Hill's beloved Los Angeles Lakers lost game five of the NBA Finals to go down 3-2 to the Boston Celtics. We shot this interview the Monday in between game five and six and Hill went on the record and correctly predicted a Lakers win in game six. As for game seven, you can bet Hill will either be in a packed Staples Center or nervously watching his TV. We're hoping for a Celtics win to avoid another summer of myopic Laker fans and Kobe apologists, but that's a topic for another time...

[And many thanks to whoever at Fox Searchlight lit this pundit. Sometimes your ego needs nice lighting.]
"Cyrus" opens in New York and Los Angeles on Friday. It expand across the country on June 25 and July 2.
