Call it producer's envy and appreciation.  The Producer's Guild of America are awarding their most prestigious honor to arguably the most successful filmmaker and producer in history, James Cameron.  The "Avatar" and "Titanic" producer and director will be awarded the 2011 Milestone Award during the 22nd Annual Producer's Guild Awards ceremony on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011.

In a statement from the PGA, Paula Wagner, Chair of this year's event said,"“James Cameron is an exceptionally talented producer—a true innovator with the rare combination of technical ingenuity and creative vision. Jim has continued to change the film landscape with his ability to deliver groundbreaking masterpieces that present audiences and the industry with unrivaled beauty, originality and impact.”

In recognizing Cameron, the guild isn't just acknowledging his milestones at the box office or his boatload of Academy Awards and nominations, but his achievements in underwater filming, visual effects and in the advancement of 3-D filmmaking.  In fact, it's clear "Avatar" is partially responsible for the 3-D boom that has swept the industry over the past 18 months and provided substantial returns for his peers.  Need we say more?

While sequels to "Avatar" are still a bit down the road, Cameron has recently announced he'll be producing Guillermo Del Toro's "Mountains of Madness" for Universal Pictures.

The Producer's Guild of America Awards will be handed out on Jan. 22 at the Hyatt Regency Century City Plaza in Los Angeles.

James Cameron, the most successful plagiarist in film industry history, is being honored for his originality and creativity.

    What a joke.

Tom Everybody steals ideas, after 2000+ years it's hard to be original.

Ermmm, AVATAR came out less then a year ago. The 3d boom was well under way. If anything AVATAR inspired the 3d CONVERSION boom that's taking place.Something I'm pretty sure was not on Cameron's mind when he made AVATAR.

I LOVE James Cameron's work, and he is a trailblazer on the technical end of things, much like George Lucas. So, please don't take offense when I say that he is NOT the most successful filmmaker of all time. I believe that Steven Spielberg still holds that position.
    Good hyperbole, though. :)

James is the man, regardless of what a bunch of nobodies here and some other places say! Avatar was THE reason why 3d came back, as no other 3d movie had or have made even a resemblance of its success worldwide.

mike Actually, Steven Spielberg is the man, Spielberg has TWO Best Director Oscars, THREE DGA awards, a PGA awards, two BAFTAS and his films have made more mone than Cameron's Cameron will always live in Spielberg's shadow!

  • Really? Originality is laughable, but I will concede his technical innovations. Still, I don't think he needs another award considering he probably needs a trophy room for his ego alone

Rocky, how many films have you made? Have you had a successful career in the film industry? Who the hell are you to criticize someone (plagiarist or not) who has actually done something with his life and who has worked his ass off for all the success he has gained?

James Cameron is a huge NOBODY. His films have extremely BAD scripts, and he uses visual effects to cover up his extremely BAD dialoge. Plus the fact that half of Hollywood, including Kate Winslet, and the entire cast of The Abyss, absolutely HATES HIS GUTS. He is well known thoroughout Hollywood as a completely egotist and half of the Academy can't stand him either, another reason why The Hurt Locker was chosen for Best Picture and Best Director over Avatar. Cameron will always live in the shadow of Steven Spielberg whose films have made more money combined than Cameron's plus Spielberg already has more awards and accolades than Cameron will ever get in his entire lifetime!

    • I think We both know who is a real NOBODY here?!
don't we MIKE?! Let me ask what have you achieved in your life so far?

James Cameron is a multi-talented, hardworking, passionate, just inspiring person.. I'm so sick of the loserish hatred towards successful people these days.
