Awards season giveth and awards season taketh away. The Screen Actor's Guild Awards have their faults, but they traditionally are an indicator of future success or failure at the Academy Awards or even Emmy Awards.  Taking that into account, Daniel Fienberg and I have compiled a list of winners and losers following the announcement of the 2013 SAG Awards announcements this morning.  You can wax on our observations in the story gallery embedded in this post.

The biggest loser must be Moonrise Kingdom?

Prettok Dunno about that. Ensemble was the only award it was in contention for here, and that was pretty competetive. I guess they just couldnt resist the British stage's who's who from Marigold.

Losers, us, for another annoying, beg for clicks "gallery" instead of just a straight up article.

A Agreed. Not that the subject matter is particularly praiseworthy, either.

Biggest loser: "The Master." Whatever renewed buzz the LAFCA gave that movie is already gone again after both Phoenix and Adams were snubbed. I don't suspect the Golden Globes will revive it either, so I'm pretty much inclined to say it's dead. Its only certain nomination seems to be Supporting Actor for Hoffman, and that may end up being the only nomination it gets. Even Best Cinematography is becoming too crowded for "The Master" to be a safe bet there.

Biggest winner: "Skyfall." Bardem has now been cited by both SAG and BFCA. It's been a full 10 years since anyone has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor by both of these organizations and then failed to receive an Oscar nod. BAFTA nominations will likely follow for both Bardem and Dench, and Golden Globe nominations are certainly possible. I think anyone who still isn't taking them seriously as contenders at this point is blind.

I am somewhat surprised that Moonrise didnt make Ensemble. But Exotic Marigold is obviously strong. I actually wonder is ZD30 was 6th or maybe even 7th/8th.
