Aha! Here's that trademark Joss Whedon wit that seemed to have been missing from the action-packed trailers and photos of the upcoming Marvel superhero-orgy "The Avengers."
In two new clips, we get to see Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) get sassy with the evil Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and, in a treat for fans, Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) show her stuff.
In the first clip, above, Stark (AKA Iron Man) talks ups his new superhero team to Thor's evil half-brother, Loki. It's in this scene that Stark counters Loki's "We have an army" with the already-famous bon mot "we have a Hulk." Likewise, hearing Stark describe each Avengers in the most reductive terms is a hilarious treat for Marvel fans. Why Stark and Loki are together though, is still a mystery. Is Stark being held captive in his own opulent penthouse?
There's also a passing reference to "Barton" (i.e. Clint Barton, AKA Hawkeye, played by Jeremy Renner) that seems to hint at a romantic relationship.
Watch it here:
The rest of the offscreen team includes Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Sgt. Nicky Fury (Samuel L. Jackson).
"The Avengers" opens nationwide May 4.
