Watch: The uber-lycan attacks in latest 'Underworld: Awakening' trailer
See Kate Beckinsale go mano-a-mano with a new breed of monster
- Critic's Rating B+
- Readers' Rating C
Though it's been glimpsed in previous trailers, the so-called "uber-lycan" (super-lycan?) makes its most substantial appearance yet in the third trailer for "Underworld: Awakening", the fourth film in the long-running franchise that sees vampire assassin Selene (Kate Beckinsale) waking up in a future world where humans have discovered the extistence of vampires and Lycans and set out to exterminate them.
Other than the bigger role played by the CGI werewolf behemoth, the new trailer is essentially more of the same - a lean, mean minute-and-a-half of bone-crunching, explosion-heavy action that will no doubt pull in fans of the previous entries and make most everyone else roll their eyes. Sure it's cheesy, but you've gotta give it to Screen Gems - they certainly how to market to the "Underworld" audience.
My grade for the trailer: "B+". After watching the new trailer above, rate it for yourself at top left!
"Underworld: Awakening" hits theaters on January 20th.
