With the highly anticipated Steven Spielberg-produced sci-fi epic "Super 8" arriving in theaters, HitFix sat down with star Kyle Chandler to discuss the film, its secrets and its surprisingly emotional core.

Chandler plays local deputy Jackson Lamb, who's recovering from the death of his wife. After a train crash unleashes a mysterious alien cargo on the town, Lamb and a group of movie-making kids (including his son, played by newcomer Joel Courtney) have to deal with a whole slew of problems.

In the video, Chandler ("Friday Night Lights") discusses the film's secretive shoot where he wasn't allowed to read the entire script, as well as his character's place in the world of "Super 8."

The film was directed by J.J. Abrams (ABC's "Lost," the 2009 "Star Trek" reboot).

"Super 8" is currently in theaters nationwide.
