Watch: Snoop Dogg goes old-school, elemental with 'I Wanna Rock' music video
Jamie Foxx makes a cameo
Snoop Dogg in "I Wanna Rock"
It's strange to call Snoop Dogg a veteran rapper, but it seems the guy has always been with us, and the music video for his second single from forthcoming "Malice N Wonderland" is a keen reminder.
Whereas the first single, "Gangsta Luv" was almost a parody of a track -- and the fantastically hilarious music video a parody of it -- this new song takes it back to the old school, with a sick sample, an easy beat just like he likes it and his raps seemingly trickling from his mouth.
The clip takes the same elemental, simple approach, with his Dogginess being draped in a fur-lined coat, given a staff, and walking his way through a warehouse of dancers and hip-hop lovers. He's got the idea: people just want to see dancers dance. Rappers rapping, too, fine. Jamie Foxx aping that sample? A little cheesy, but good to see the singer out and about.
"Malice N Wonderland is due Dec. 8, the same day that Chris Brown, Timbaland and, well, Thirty Seconds to Mars are dropping their new efforts. Snoop's effort boasts a vertitable Who's Who of R&B/hip-hop guests and producers, including the ever-present Dr. Dre, The Neptunes, Nottz, The-Dream, Just Blaze, Pete Rock, The Game, R. Kelly, Swizz Beatz, Ghostface Killah, Brandy and Mary J. Blige.
Snoop Dogg is also on the recently incarcerated Gucci Mane's "The Stave vs. Radric Davis," due the same day.
Snoop Dogg isn't the only hip-hop artist who wants to rock this season, by the way: Lil Wayne's rock experiment "Rebirth" is apparently out on Dec. 22. Oh, and he's on Gucci's record, too.
