Watch: New 'Star Trek' trailer hits warp speed
Preview hints the franchise could hit the big leagues
Checkov (Anton Yelchin), Kirk (Chris Pine) and Bones (Karl Urban) on the U.S.S. Enterprise.
Thanks to Trailer Addict, the final trailer for J.J. Abram's reboot of "Star Trek" is now available to view. HitFix's own Dan Fienberg got a sneak peek of the trailer last weekend at Wondercon and as he noted, its clearly the most impressive preview yet.
Having seen extended scenes from the movie last November, there is still a lot of new footage here including Kirk (Chris Pine) taking the helm of the Enterprise and the film's villain, Nero (Eric Bana), being allotted more screen time. And of course, the massive CG effects budget is on full, dazzling display.
This writer still has major concerns about Zachary Quinto as Spock, but the more Dr. McCoy (Karl Urban) and Pine we're shown overshadows that one casting disappointment.
The trailer should also be available in front of most prints of this weekend's expected blockbuster "Watchmen."

"Star Trek" opens nationwide and on IMAX on May 8.

March 6, 2009 at 9:23AM EST Reply to CommentIf Star Trek isn't a franchise I'd argue that's only in the eyes of people under of the age of say, 35 or so. It was diluted in recent years and it's too bad TNG movies weren't as memorable as say, movies 2-4 but these comments are far too dismissive. In it's day these movies were every bit as anticipated (perhaps more given the generational knowledge) as what we are seeing here.
Nothing wrong with getting excited as this looks fun but can't it be done without going revisionist or disparaging what clearly worked before. I mean - if it's good enough to be made into ANOTHER movie that everyone is excited about it's pretty clear that it already is more a 'franchise' than most of what else gets shoveled out in that name.

March 6, 2009 at 6:51PM EST Reply to CommentNot to use hyperbole, but this is one of the best trailers I've ever seen. Kudos to whoever put that together. This just upgraded me from "probably seeing it" to "midnight showing". The music, CGI, and Eric Bana are a perfect trifecta.

March 6, 2009 at 9:59PM EST Reply to Commentit finally looks like star trek has been given a worthy enough budget to give it's story justice. This trailer is fantastic. I was already looking forward to this move, but this.. well this has exceed my expectations.
My only hope is that paramount doesn't end up selling star treks soul like it had done in recent times, which caused the demise of the franchise in the first place
