Watch: Is 'I Am Number Four' the mutant offspring of 'X-Men' and 'Twilight'?
A little over three years ago, D.J. Caruso helped turn Shia LaBeouf into a star with the surprise hit "Disturbia" and judging from the first footage from "I Am Number Four" he's about to do it again for Brit Alex Pettyfer.
The first DreamWorks movie since their move to new distributor Walt Disney, "I Am Number Four" centers on a young man (Pettyfer) who just happens to be an alien with super powers. It seems as though there are few of his kind left on Earth and three of his people have already been hunted down and killed. And, surprise, he's number four in line. The teaser for the film debuted today and it's appears to be an intriguing mix of mutant effects from the "X-Men" series (energy blasts, telekinesis) and the romance in the woods magic of the "Twilight" series. One thing is for sure, CBS Films was so confident that Pettyfer would be a household name among the tween set after "Number Four" is they delayed what was supposed to be his leading man debut, "Beastly," till after the potential DreamWorks franchise hit theaters.
Is Pettyfer a star in the making? You can watch the trailer above and judge for yourself.
"I Am Number Four" opens nationwide on Feb. 18, 2011.
