Video: Chris Evans and Dakota Fanning talk 'Push,' 'Scott Pilgrim' and 'New Moon'
Plus: Camilla Belle, Djimon Hounsou and five clips from the new thriller
Dakota Fanning and Chris Evans discuss "Push" with HitFix.
It's rare that two movies get released with the same title (or pretty close) in the same calendar year, but 2009 has two "Push" pictures on the schedule and you can chalk it up to their studios not being members of the tightly controlling MPAA. The first "Push" stars Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, Djimon Hounsou and Camilla Belle and is a surprisingly entertaining and stylish thriller from director Paul McGuigan who made some noise with his debut "Gangster No. 1" and more recently with the Ashton Kutcher mystery "Lucky Number Slevin."
Filmed on location in Hong Kong, this "Push" finds two super-powered Americans, Nick (Evans) and Cassie (Fanning), teaming up to try and mount one last job to escape the clutches of a secret government agency that wants them back in the fold. Hounsou plays the agent, also gifted with his own powers, in charge of stopping them and Belle portrays Kira, a "pusher" who may or may not be a former flame of Nick's and is caught in the crossfire.
The second "Push," which has a subtitle "Based on a novel by Sapphire," premiered to great acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival and was just acquired by Lionsgate, Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry. The Lee Daniels drama couldn't be further from McGuigan's flick as it focuses on an overweight Harlem teenager trying to escape the clutches of her abusive mother in the late 80s. It's expected to be released sometime this fall.
As for this Friday's "Push," check out my video interviews with both Evans and Fanning as well as Hounsou and Belle. Evans, who is about to shoot "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World," reveals he has no hesitancy in playing super-powered characters after two "Fantastic Four" films (obviously) and Fanning dishes a little about a possible role in the "Twilight" sequel "New Moon."
Besides the subsequent interview with Hounsou and Belle, get a feel for McGuigan's vision with five new clips from the picture.
Look for upcoming HitFix video interviews with the casts of "Friday the 13th" and "Confessions of a Shopaholic."
"Push" opens nationwide on Feb. 6.
