TV Ratings: Wednesday 'Wipeout' premiere wipes out 'So You Think You Can Dance'
FOX still wins the 18-49 demo, while CBS' George Strait special wins overall
ABC's 'Wipeout'
Fast National ratings for Wednesday, May 27, 2009.
While CBS dominated Wednesday night overall, the big competition came at 8 p.m. when ABC's "Wipeout" premiere topped the time period premiere of FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance."
Don't expect concern from FOX, though, which still controlled the night among adults 18-49 with a 3.5 rating. CBS was a distant second in the key demographic with a 2.1 rating, nipping the 1.9 rating for ABC and NBC's 1.5 rating. The CW trailed with a 0.5 rating.
Overall, though, CBS averaged an estimated 10.01 million viewers to go with a 6.4 rating/11 share. FOX was second with a 5.2/9, followed by the 4.2/7 for NBC and ABC's 3.2/5. The CW had a 0.8/1 for fifth.
CBS started the night in first overall with a 5.9/10 for its George Strait concert special. ABC's "Wipeout" premiere had a 4.9/9 and a 3.2 rating in the 18-49 demo, edging the 4.7/8 and 3.0 rating for FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance." Don't be surprised if "Dance" moves back ahead of "Wipeout" next week. NBC's "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" took fourth with a 3.6/6, beating The CW's "America's Next Top Model" encore.
The George Strait special stayed in first for CBS with a 7.6/12 in the 9 p.m. hour. FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance" was up to a 5.7/9 and improved to a 3.9 rating in the 18-49 demo, easily winning the hour. NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" repeat was third. The premiere of "The Goode Family" had a lackluster 2.5/4 for ABC, while "Surviving Suburbia" plummeted to a 1.9/3 without its "Dancing with the Stars" lead-in. The CW's encore of "Hitched or Ditched" was fifth.
CBS won the 10 p.m. hour with a 5.8/10 for "Criminal Minds." NBC's "Law & Order" was second. Even facing only repeats, ABC's new episode of "The Unusuals" could muster only a 2.6/4 for third.
All ratings information comes from preliminary Fast National Nielsen data, which includes live and same-day DVR viewing. All numbers are subject to change.
