TV Ratings: Wednesday results favor 'American Idol'

Among adults 18-49, FOX averaged a 5.7 rating, to easily beat the 2.9 rating for ABC in the key demographic. CBS was second with a 2.2 rating. The season premiere of "America's Next Top Model" helped The CW to a rare fourth place finish with a 1.8 rating, leaving NBC's 1.5 rating in fifth.
Overall, FOX averaged an estimated 16.35 million viewers and a 9.6 rating/15 share. CBS was second with a 5.8/9, while ABC's 4.4/7 and the 3.6/6 for NBC followed. The CW was fifth with a 2.6/4.
In the 8 p.m. hour FOX's "American Idol" did a 13.1/21, on the low side for the season. NBC's "Knight Rider" and CBS' repeats of "The New Adventures of Old Christine" and "Gary Unmarried" tied for second. ABC's "Lost" repeat edged the 2.3/4 for the first hour of "America's Next Top Model."
CBS won the 9 p.m. hour with the 6.6/10 for a repeat of "Criminal Mind." ABC's "Lost" had a 6.3/10 to nip the 6.2/10 for "Lie to Me," which lost more than 13 million viewers from its lead-in and nearly two million viewers from half-hour to half-hour. NBC's "Life" repeat was fourth, nipping the 3.0/5 for the second hour of "ANTM."
At 10 p.m. CBS got a 7.1/12 for a "CSI: NY" repeat. NBC's "Law & Order" repeat was second, beating the 3.6/6 for ABC's "Life on Mars."
