Zooey Deschanel and FOX's "New Girl" retained viewers impressively from last week's surprising premiere, settling in as an early-season comedy hit and helping the network top Tuesday night among young viewers. Meanwhile, the "NCIS" duo kept CBS in control overall and despite a big drop, "Unforgettable" also won its hour.
Among adults 18-49, FOX averaged a 3.6 rating, edging out CBS' 3.4 rating to win the coveted demographic. ABC and NBC tied for third with a 2.2 rating, while The CW averaged a 0.9 rating.
Overall, though, CBS averaged an estimated 15.865 million viewers to go with a 10.0 rating/15 share, easily winning the night. ABC was second with a 7.3/11 and 10.93 million viewers, still far ahead of the 4.7/7 and 8.06 million viewers for FOX. NBC was fourth with a 3.7/6 and 5.69 million viewers. The CW's 1.2/2 and 1.84 million viewers was up from last week, but trailed.
8 p.m. - CBS started primetime in first with 19.18 million viewers and a 4.2 rating among adults 18-49 for "NCIS." ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" clip show was second with 9.3 million viewers, but finished fourth with a 1.8 key demo rating. FOX's "Glee" slipped from its premiere to 8.34 million viewers and a 3.6 key demo rating in third. On NBC, "The Biggest Loser" averaged 5.7 million viewers and a 2.1 demo rating, also down. The CW's "90210" bucked the downward trend with 1.68 million viewers and a 0.8 key demo rating, up from last week.
9 p.m. - "NCIS: Los Angeles" kept CBS in first overall for the 9 p.m. hour with 16.13 million viewers and finished second with a 3.5 rating among adults 18-49. ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" rose to 14.05 million viewers for second and a 2.8 key demo rating for third. FOX was fourth overall, but tops in the key demo with "New Girl" (9.26 million viewers and a 4.4 key demo rating) and "Raising Hope" (6.3 million and a 2.9 key demo rating). NBC's "The Biggest Loser" averaged 5.84 million viewers. On The CW, "Ringer" leveled off after last week's drop, averaging 2.005 million viewers (slightly up) and a 0.9 key demo rating.
10 p.m. - CBS' "Unforgettable" averaged 12.285 million viewers and a 2.5 key demo rating to win the 10 p.m. hour, though both numbers represented big declines from last week's premiere. ABC's "Body of Proof" averaged 9.43 million viewers and a 1.9 key demo rating also off from last week. That made NBC's "Parenthood" the exception, riding to 5.52 million viewers and a 2.2 key demo rating.

September 28, 2011 at 1:47PM EST Reply to CommentAt those ratings Parenthood could stay on the air for years! It is one of their most consistent shows in terms of ratings and after last night's debacle of Sing-Off and Playboy Club, it looks great. That is just ratings-related, as I know Parenthood has a lot of other key elements that play into a renewal.
JR I think Parenthood is safe overall because NBC is in such bad shape. They can't cancel every one of their shows which are doing poorly since they don't have enough midseason shows to fill the slots.
