Fast National ratings for Friday, Oct. 30, 2009.
The first Friday night of sweeps went according to usual ratings form, with CBS' procedurals controlling the night both overall and in young adult demos. The only CBS procedural not to win its time period overall? NBC transplant "Medium," which lost to... NBC. Yeah. We find that a little bit funny.
As a side note, FOX replaced its dismal comedies and the beloved (by a few people) "Dollhouse" with a repeat of the "House" premiere. The results were definitely better for FOX, but still not successful.
Anyway, among adults 18-49, CBS won the night with a 1.9 rating, beating ABC and NBC's 1.4 rating in the key demographic. FOX was fourth with a 1.2 rating, while The CW's 0.
8 rating was fifth.
Overall, CBS averaged an estimated 7.9 million viewers in primetime to go with a 5.0 rating/9 share. NBC was second overall with a 4.4/8, followed by the 3.7/7 for ABC. FOX's 2.4/4 and the 1.2/2 for The CW followed.
In the 8 p.m. hour, CBS got a 5.2/10 for "Ghost Whisperer," which also won the hour with a 2.0 demo rating. NBC's "Law & Order" was second overall with a 4.5/8. ABC took third with "Supernanny." FOX's "House" had a 2.1/4 for fourth. The CW's "Smallville" had a 1.6/3, with 2.6 million viewers and did a 1.2 demo rating, beating FOX for the hour.
NBC moved into first at 9 p.m. with a 5.3/9 for "Dateline." CBS' "Medium" had a 4.9/8 for second overall, though its 1.8 demo rating nipped NBC to win the hour. ABC's "Ugly Betty" was third with a 3.2 rating. FOX's "House" did a 2.6/5 for the hour and a 1.3 demo rating. [If "Dollhouse" fans want the comparison, the Joss Whedon drama did a 1.3/2 and a 0.8 demo rating last week.] The CW's "America's Next Top Model" repeat trailed.
CBS moved back into first at 10 p.m. with a 4.9/9 for "Numb3rs," just topping ABC's "20/20." NBC's "The Jay Leno Show" was fifth with a 3.5/6 and an impressively low 1.2 demo rating.
All ratings information comes from preliminary Fast National Nielsen data, which includes live and same-day DVR viewing. All numbers are subject to change.
