Among adults 18-49, CBS averaged a 3.1 rating to narrowly top the 3.0 ratings for both ABC and FOX in the key demographic. NBC's 1.8 rating was well back in fourth, while The CW's 0.5 rating trailed.
Overall, CBS averaged an estimated 11.58 million viewers to go with a 7.3 rating/12 share. ABC's 5.5/9 was second, with FOX's 4.5/7 and the 4.2/7 for NBC following. The CW's 0.9/1 trailed.
CBS had the highest ratings for the 8 p.m. hour with a 4.7/8 for "The New Adventures of Old Christine" and "Gary Unmarried," ABC's "Shrek the Halls" and a new episode of "The Middle
" were a close second with a 4.6/7, but actually averaged more viewers and won the hour in the 18-49 demo with a 2.5 rating. NBC's "Mercy" was a close third with a 4.5/6, beating the 4.1/7 for FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance," though the FOX results show averaged a higher demo rating. The CW trailed with a "Gossip Girl" repeat.
"Criminal Minds" delivered an 8.9/14 for CBS in the 9 p.m. hour, also doing a 3.8 demo rating. NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" was second overall with a 5.2/8, but fourth in the demo. ABC's "Modern Family
" (5.5/9) and "Cougar Town
" (4.3/7) were third also doing a 3.3 demo rating. FOX's "Glee" ended its 2009 run with a 4.8/7 and a 3.6 demo rating, both in line with last week's totals. The CW's repeat of "The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show" doubled its "Gossip Girl" lead-in, but stayed in fifth.
CBS stayed in first in the 10 p.m. hour with an 8.4/14 for "CSI: NY," which also won the demo with a 3.2 rating. ABC's Barbara Walters special celebrating the year's most intriguing people was a solid second with a 7.1/12 and a 3.1 demo rating. After an strong Tuesday, "The Jay Leno Show" was back to its regular lows in third.
