Fast National ratings for Friday, Oct. 9, 2009.
After at least three consecutive airings that represented the show's smallest audience ever, "Dollhouse" actually showed week-to-week improvements on Friday night, delivering only the show's *second* smallest audience ever. Hey, you take what you can get?
Meanwhile, it almost goes without saying that CBS won Friday night in all key measures.
Among adults 18-49, CBS averaged a 1.9 rating, topping the 1.5 rating for NBC and ABC's 1.0 rating. FOX was fourth in the key demographic with a 0.9 rating, while The CW's 0.7 rating trailed.
Overall, CBS averaged an estimated 8.01 million viewers to go with a 5.1 rating/9 share.
NBC was a solid second with a 4.4/8. ABC's 2.8/5 was third, followed by the 1.5/3 for FOX and the 1.1/2 for The CW.
CBS started the night in first with a 5.3/10 for "Ghost Whisperer," which also won the hour in the key demo with a 2.1 rating. NBC's "Law & Order" was second with a 4.7/9. ABC's "FlashForward" repeat took third. FOX was fourth with a 1.5/3 for "Brothers" and "'Til Death." The CW's "Smallville" was fifth with a 1.4/3, but the show's 0.9 rating in the key demo beat FOX.
"Medium" kept CBS in first at 9 p.m. with a 5.2/9, just ahead of the 4.9/9 for "Dateline NBC." ABC's "Modern Family" and "The Middle" repeats were third. FOX's "Dollhouse" had a 1.4/3 for fourth, averaging 2.246 million viewers (up from under 2.1 million last week) and a 1.0 demo rating (up from the 0.8 rating). Those "Dollhouse" numbers are still way below the 2.76 million viewers who watched the season premiere, the show's smallest audience at that time. The CW's "America's Next Top Model" repeat was fifth.
"Numb3rs" kept CBS in first at 10 p.m. with a 4.7/9. ABC's "20/20" was second with a 4.3/8. That left "The Jay Leno Show" in third.
All ratings information comes from preliminary Fast National Nielsen data, which includes live and same-day DVR viewing. All numbers are subject to change.
