Fast National ratings for Sunday, May 31, 2009.

The ratings for Sunday night are likely to show that most viewers were watching the MTV Movie Awards rather than any of the reheated leftovers offered by the four-and-a-bit major networks.

Among adults 18-49, NBC won the night with a 2.0 rating, which is pretty impressive given that NBC was airing hockey. FOX was a close second with a 1.9 rating in the key demographic. CBS' 1.3 rating and the 1.1 rating for ABC trailed. The CW had a 0.3 rating.

Overall, though, CBS averaged an estimated 7.19 million viewers to go with a 4.7 rating/8 share. NBC was second with a 3.0/5, followed by the 2.6/5 for FOX and the 2.5/4 for ABC. The CW's 0.6/1 trailed.

CBS began the night strongly in first with a 5.8/11 for "60 Minutes." ABC was second with a repeat of "America's Funniest Home Videos," which beat the 2.6/5 for NBC's Stanley Cup coverage or "Dateline," depending on your location. FOX episodes of "King of the Hill" and "American Dad" had 1.6/3 to beat the 0.4/1 for the week's "Jericho" encore on The CW.

"Million Dollar Password" had a 4.5/8 for CBS in the 8 p.m. hour. ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" had a 3.1/5 for second. NBC's hockey or "Dateline" and FOX's "The Simpsons" and "King of the Hill" finished third with a 2.9/5. The CW's airing of "Desperately Seeking Susan" was fifth.

CBS stayed in first at 9 p.m. with a 4.9/8 for "Cold Case." NBC's hockey and FOX's "Family Guy" and "American Dad" moved up to a second-place tie with a 3.3/5. ABC's "Desperate Housewives" was fourth, beating the 0.8/1 for The CW's Random Movie of the Week.

"The Unit" kept CBS in first at 10 p.m. with a 3.7/6. The conclusion of the hockey game and "Dateline" (in other markets) had NBC in second with a 1.8/3. ABC's "Brothers & Sisters" trailed.

All ratings information comes from preliminary Fast National Nielsen data, which includes live and same-day DVR viewing. All numbers are subject to change.
