TV Ratings: 'American Idol' downloads Tuesday win for FOX
Despite a confusing theme -- Popular iTunes Downloads, whatever that means -- "American Idol" was predictably dominant on Tuesday night. The return of "The Osbournes"? Not-so-dominant.
Among adults 18-49, FOX averaged a 7.5 rating on Tuesday night. NBC was a distant second with a 3.5 rating, followed closely by CBS' 3.3 rating. ABC was fourth with a 2.0 rating, having no trouble beating the 1.0 rating for The CW.
Overall, FOX averaged an estimated 19.93 million viewers to go with an 11.3/17. CBS' 9.8/15 was a respectable second. NBC's 5.6/9 was good enough for third, while ABC's 5.2/8 took fourth. The CW was fifth with a 1.4/2.
In the 8 p.m. hour, FOX's "American Idol" did a 13.4/21, topping the 10.6/16 for CBS' "NCIS." NBC's "Biggest Loser: Couples" doubled up ABC's "Better Off Ted" repeats. The CW's "Reaper" had a 1.5/2 for fifth.
CBS moved into first place at 10 p.m. with the 10.5/16 for "The Mentalist." FOX fell to second because while 25-ish minutes of "American Idol" and the start of "Osbournes: Reloaded" did a 13.1/19, a full half-hour of "Osbournes: Reloaded" did only a 5.5/8. ABC was third with an 8.3/13 for the week's "Dancing with the Stars" results. NBC's "Biggest Loser: Couples" had a 5.8/9, but finished second for the hour in the 18-49 demo. The return of "90210" on The CW actually lost a few viewers from its "Reaper" lead-in.
"Without a Trace" had an 8.3/14 to win the 10 p.m. hour for CBS. NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" finished second overall, but won the hour in the 18-49 demo. The season premiere of "Cupid" on ABC had a 5.0/8 to finish third, also finishing third in the key demo and losing more than two million viewers from half-hour to half-hour.
