TV On The Radio's Malone preps solo debut
Band announces tiny benefit show in Chicago
Kyp Malone, aka Rain Machine
TV On The Radio's Kyp Malone is going the solo route, but rest assured the band isn't breaking up.
"I've been writing and recording songs alone since I moved to NYC in 2000, at first alone because I didn't know anyone, then through the years by choice because of a particular freedom that going it alone afforded," Malone said in a statement.
He's working under the moniker Rain Machine and preparing a debut, due this fall via Anti-. Malone tapped producer Ian Brennan (Lucinda Williams) to man the decks.
Malone plans to tour with TVOTR throughout the summer and fall, however. The Brooklyn rock act's last album was "Dear Science," released last year.
The group has also announced a tiny Chicago show around Lollapalooza, much like the Beastie Boys. Chairlift will open for the group at the Double Door on Aug. 7. Tickets go on pre-sale tomorrow, June 24 at 1 p.m. EST. The rest go up Friday.
"Proceeds from the show are to benefit healthcare for Colleen Malone," reads astatement, though not specifying if Malone is related to Kyp.
