Michael Bay's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" may not open in the states until Wednesday, but the United Kingdom and Japan have already had their share of massive robot battles.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Revenge of the Fallen" opened to $20 million in only 846 theaters between both countries. Opening No. 1 in both countries, the sequel made $14.1 million in the U.K. and $5.8 million in Japan. That's 71% and 13% over the first installment in both territories respectively. The Megan Fox and Shia LaBeouf spectacle opens across the rest of the world on Wednesday.
Other blockbusters are also doing well overseas this summer. "Terminator: Salvation" has grossed over $200 million outside the U.S., "Star Trek" has broken franchise records with $122 million, "Angels & Demons" has raked up $329.2 million, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" has scratched up a satisfactory $183 million and nearing the end of its run, "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" has grossed a disappointing $192 million so far (the original made $329 million internationally).
After "Transformers," the next major title to debut day and date across the globe will be "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" on and around July 15.
