NBC is reportedly sketching out a sitcom built around "Top Chef" host Padma Lakshmi.

According to Variety, Lakshmi has a development deal with NBC and Universal Media Studios which may yield a half-hour comedy starring Lakshmi as a woman working in the culinary world.

The trade paper says that "Single Serving" is being kicked around as a possible title. Currently the comedy is missing a few small things, though, things like a tangible premise and a writer.

If it moves forward, Original Media will produce.

Lakshmi and "Top Chef" cohort Tom Colicchio recently earned Emmy nominations for Reality Competition Host last week. The next season of "Top Chef," set in Las Vegas, will premiere on Bravo on August 26. The Lakshmi comedy appears to be in such a nascent stage that any sort of speculation on her "Top Chef" future would be wheel-spinning.

Before you start asking if NBC learned nothing from the failure of "Emeril" back in 2001, Lakshmi isn't an acting neophyte. She co-starred in ABC's miniseries "The Ten Commandments" and appeared in the features "The Mistress of Spices" and "Glitter."
