TNT is hoping to bring Angie Harmon back to primetime as the star of the new mystery pilot "Rizzoli."
Based on Tess Gerritson's popular Jane Rizzoli mystery novels, the pilot is being adapted by Jane Tamaro ("Bones"). Tamaro and Bill Haber will executive produce along with Michael M. Robin, who will also direct the pilot.
"Angie Harmon is not only a terrific actress, but also a favorite of crime drama fans," states Michael Wright, executive vice president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and TCM.
"She will bring a combination of toughness and sensitivity to the challenging lead role. We’re thrilled to have Angie on board for what could be an outstanding addition to TNT’s collection of strong female characters."
Gerritson has written seven mysteries built around the Rizzoli, a Boston-based detective. In the books, Rizzoli works closely with Maura Isles, a medical examiner who will also be part of the pilot.
In addition to Harmon's long run as ADA Abbie Carmichael on "Law & Order," her TV credits include regular roles on "Women's Murder Club" and "Baywatch Nights."
