Color us confused: The original "Melrose Place" was spun off from the original "Beverly Hills, 90210," but The CW's new "Melrose Place" is going off on its own power?

The latest star cast in the new "Melrose Place" is Jessica Lucas, though The Hollywood Reporter indicates that the actress won't be playing the same role she played earlier this season on "90210."

The trade says that Lucas will play Riley, a Melrose Place resident who works in an inner city elementary school, but presumably has enough family money for her upscale address. She's engaged to Jonah, who will be played by Michael Rady.

The "Melrose Place" reboot previous cast Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Katie Cassidy in key roles.

Lucas had a "21 Jump Street" style four-episode arc on "90210" as Kimberly MacIntyre, who looked like a bad girl, but was really an undercover narcotics episode. She stuck around only long enough to get Ryan Eggold's Ryan Matthews in a heap of trouble.

Other credits for Lucas include "Cloverfield" and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."
