Following the ongoing industry trend, David E. Kelley has looked Across the Pond to find the lead in his newest legal dramedy.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, English actress Charity Wakefield has been tapped to star in the pilot for NBC's "Legally Mad."

Set up under Kelley's new deal at Warner Bros. TV, "Legally Mad" focuses on a twentysomething woman who turns down jobs at more prestigious firms to join her father's practice.

Also new to the pilot is TV veteran Jon Seda. Reading verbatim off the call-sheet, the trade paper says Seda will play "the rugged, grumpy but lovable Joe Matty, who is an equal-opportunity offender." Yup. Totally meaningless.

Kristin Chenoweth was previously cast in a key supporting role in the pilot.

Wakefield is probably most familiar to British (and possibly American) TV audiences for her work in the 2008 BBC adaptation of "Sense and Sensibility," in which she played Marianne Dashwood. She's also been seen in "Hex," "Doctors" and something called "Casualty 1907."

Seda's series credits include "Oz," "Kevin Hill," "Homicide," "Close to Home" and HBO's upcoming miniseries "The Pacific."
