Susan Boyle sets Amazon's all-time pre-order record
No telling what her second week will bring, but the British singer is a testament to internet notoriety
Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream"
"Britain's Got Talent" star Susan Boyle has set a new record for the most pre-orders of any CD ever on Amazon.com in its 14 year history, in the U.S. and worldwide.
The site hasn't released specific numbers, but noted to Reuters that her debut "I Dreamed a Dream" (due Nov. 24 via Sony) beat out former record-holders Japanese rock act Mr. Children "Supermarket Fantasy" from 2008, British pop crew Take That's "Never Forget: The Ultimate Collection" in 2008 and Norah Jones' "Not Too Late" in 2007.
While "Britain's Got Talent" doesn't air in the U.S., Boyle, 48, blew up as an internet sensation following her appearances on the show. Audiences seemed to be taken with her backstory as a church volunteer from Scotland and her atypical un-glamorous dowdy look. She ultimately took second in the television talent competition.
Boyle has performed once in America, as she tackled the Rolling Stones track "Wild Horses" on "America's Got Talent" in September. That track is included on "I Dreamed a Dream," tracklist below. You can listen to the entire album, including her "Silent Night," on her website.
