George Strait scores fifth No. 1, outsell's Michael Jackson's 'Numbers Ones'
Who the heck is Justin Moore and why is he at No. 10?
George Strait
Finally, somebody sells better than Michael Jackson's "Number Ones!"
And, thank goodness, the No. 1 album on The Billboard 200 this week managed to sell more than 100k.
George Strait scores his fifth No. 1 on the new album sales chart as "Twang" starts with 155,000. His "Troubadour" managed the same chart-topping debut last year. The country singer also continues his reign as the artist with the most No. 1s on the Top Country Albums chart, now 23 in all.
Obviously, country fans are still buying their music. And so are Neil Diamond fans, and we'll leave it to you to determine exactly what that fanbase comprises. His Wal-Mart/Sam's Club exclusive live CD/DVD set "Hot August/NYC" bows at No. 2 with 57,000. His last set, 2008 ""Home Before Dark" -- for as long as Diamond has been around (mid-'60s) -- was his first and only No. 1.
Black Eyed Peas' "The E.N.D.," that gift that just keeps giving, climbs 4-3 with a 2% sales increase to 45,000.
Cobra Starship's "Hot Mess" messes all over No. 4, with 42,000, and with the help of the Leighton Meester-assisted single "Good Girls Go Bad." It's a whole lot better than the band's sophomore set, 2007's "Viva La Cobra," which peaked at No. 80.
Kings Of Leon's "Only By The Night" keeps the No. 5 spot warm another week (42,000), the "Now 31" hits compilation slips 2-6 (38,000), Maxwell's "BLACKsummers'night" stays at No. 7 (38,000, -14%), Daughtry's "Leave This Town" descends 6-8 (38,000, -14%) and Taylor Swift sits tight at No. 9 (37,000, flat sales).
Justin Moore, who I don't think I've even ever heard of, comes in at No. 10 with his self-titled effort, selling 34,000. He's the country singer behind a song called "Small Town USA." SPOILER: It references six-packs, church, physical labor and dirt roads.
