After years of speculation and attempted pairings, Zooey and Emily Deschanel will join forces on a December episode of FOX's "Bones."
The "500 Days of Summer" star had been previously wooed to make a "Bones" guest appearance on multiple occasions, only to have scheduling conflicts prevent the reunion.
On Wednesday (Oct. 28), though, "Bones" creator Hart Hanson tweeted, "The Deschanel sisters working it together! We may have hit our quotient for fun and amusing. They obviously adore each other."
And then on Thursday morning, FOX announced that Zooey's "Bones" episode will air on Dec. 10.
Titled "The Goop on the Girl," the Holiday-themed episode will feature Zooey ("Elf") as Margaret Whitesell, a distant relative to Emily Deschanel's Temperance Brennan. The two meet when Brennan's dad (Ryan O'Neal) tracks Margaret down and invites her to spend Christmas.
Emily Deschanel's previous "Bones" family reunion came when her father, five-time Oscar nominated cinematographer Caleb Deschanel, directed a 2007 episode.
In addition to formalizing the Zooey casting, the Thursday FOX press release also confirmed the scuttlebutt that series star David Boreanaz will direct the show's milestone 100th episode, airing sometime in the spring.
Networks usually prefer press releases like this to be timed to new episodes of the show, just as an added publicity bonus. However, "Bones" will be preempted for World Series coverage on Thursday night.
