Rodrigo y Gabriela performs during the Bonnaroo Arts and Music Festival in Manchester, Tenn., Saturday, June 13, 2009.
Fresh off of breathtaking dueling guitar action from Bonnaroo, Rodrigo y Gabriela announce details of their new album and a short tour back in the U.S.
The new ATO album, which comes on the heels of the Mexican duo's self-titled 2006 album, is titled "11:11," with - you guessed it - 11 original tracks, each of which is a homage to their favorite musicians. The album was mixed in the U.K. by Colin Richardson (Slipknot and Trivium). Testament guitarist Alex Skolnick guests.
"Oh, well that settles it," you may say. "Rodrigo y Gabriela are a metal band." Well, no, says a lady behind her keyboard. Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero are metal lovers who play in the style of samba, flamenco and Mexican folk. Heavy on rhythm and flawless in execution, the duo bounce off each other with fury and intensity that any Metal God would admire, which make their live show completely unmatchable.
Rodrigo y Gabriela will play June 28 at Summerfest in Milwaukee, then return to the U.S. after a tour in Europe on Sept. 16 at Terminal 5 in New York. More dates will be added at a later, um, date.
