Robin Williams brings 'Weapons Self-Destruction' to HBO

Robin Williams, whose relationship with the premium cable network dates back more than 30 years, will return to HBO this December with a new comedy special.

"Weapons of Self-Destruction," Williams' first solo comedy special in seven years, will tape in Washington, D.C. this November in advance of its HBO premiere.

Even before becoming a household name on "Mork and Mindy," Williams had appeared on an HBO "Young Comedians" special in 1977. He returned to the network for 1978's "On Location: Robin Williams," 1983's "An Evening with Robin Williams," 1986's "Robin Williams: An Evening at the Met" and 2002's "Robin Williams: Live on Broadway."

In addition, of course, Williams co-hosted nine "Comic Relief" specials for HBO with Billy Crystal and Whoopi Goldberg.

"Robin Williams has been synonymous with stellar original comedy throughout HBO's history, and we're delighted to join him for the latest chapter in his amazing career," says Nancy Geller, HBO Entertainment's senior vice president.

In addition to being Williams' HBO comeback, "Weapons of Self-Destruction" is a different sort of comeback for the "Good Will Hunting" Oscar winner, who had to postpone his one-man tour back in March due to heart problems, undergoing a surgery to replace his aortic valve.

The "Weapons of Self-Destruction" tour will resume in Indiana at the end of September.
