Report: Peter Jackson and "New Moon" confirmed for Comic-Con
NYT also says Warner Bros. to present 10 films, hints at 'Avatar'
Need a pickup to the local economy San Diego? How about "Twilight" returning to Comic-Con with the "New Moon" cast?
The secret everyone knew in Hollywood is out, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" is coming to Comic-Con.
Summit Entertainment has not officially confirmed, but The New York Times is reporting the "Twilight" sequel will make a return visit to the venerable Hall H. Last year, thousands of screaming fans turned the presentation into something akin to a rock concert by screaming non-stop through the public debut of Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson). In fact, many arrived the night before to make sure they had seats during the panel and it was the first sign, to the mainstream media at least, that this "Twilight" phenomenon might actually be something serious. Even bigger news, however, is the San Diego arrival of acclaimed filmmaker Peter Jackson.
The Oscar-winning director of "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and "King Kong" has actually never appeared at the convention in person, but provided video messages and sent his more celebrity friendly stars. Now, Jackson will appear to help promote "District 9," a new Sci-Fi thriller from Neil Blomkamp that the New Zealand native produced. It doesn't take much guessing to infer that Jackson could also appear to discuss another upcoming production in his stable, "The Hobbit" which will be directed by con regular Guillermo del Toro or his new prestige pic "The Lovely Bones" with Mark Wahlberg.
The "world's greatest newspaper" also goes on to speculate, but not confirm, that Jackson could be upstaged by James Cameron who might plug his own winter release, "Avatar." The "Titanic" filmmaker recently appeared at E3 to discuss his groundbreaking 3-D film, but has previously gone on the record saying he has no interest in appearing at what has become an annual pop culture event.
Additionally, reports indicate that Warner Bros. may appear with up to 10 films to preview during the convention.
Comic-Con's first full day is Thursday, July 23 at the San Diego Convention Center. The event ends on Sunday, July 26.
