ABC has tapped "Reaper" star Missy Peregrym for the lead in the Canadian police drama "Copper."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Peregrym will play Andy McNally, a fresh police academy grad starting her first day on the job. The character's dad is a homicide detective and her introduction to police work doesn't go exactly according to plan. We assume that means that the other officers are intimidated by her broad shoulders.

"Copper," produced by Canada's E1, will begin shooting shortly in Toronto. The series has a 13-episode order and was picked up by ABC in April.

While "Reaper" fans continue to hold out remote hope that the show may find a second season in syndication, Peregrym has now become the second lead -- following Tyler Labine on FOX's "Sons of Tucson" -- to snag a new series role.

Other series credits for the Montreal-born Peregrym include ABC's "Life As We Know It" and NBC's "Heroes," plus the lead in the feature "Stick It."

Good for Missy. She was great on Reaper (it will be missed) but I am glad she got a new series.
