Piers Morgan says goodbye to 'America's Got Talent' to focus on CNN talk show
And throws his hat into the Oscar host ring
"America's Got Talent" will no longer have Piers Morgan as a judge.
NEW YORK (AP) — Piers Morgan says he's leaving the judges' panel at "America's Got Talent" to concentrate on his CNN talk show.
He made the announcement Wednesday night on "Piers Morgan Tonight." He explained that juggling both shows had proven too difficult. He said he had chosen to ease his schedule to focus on covering events in the upcoming election year.
Morgan has been a judge on the NBC talent show since 2006, where lately he sat alongside fellow judges Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel. The show's most recent season ended in September.
The 46-year-old British journalist and TV personality was tapped for the CNN show last year. "Piers Morgan Tonight" premiered in January, replacing "Larry King Live" on CNN's weeknight schedule.
